This weekend I decided to try cooking a homemade pizza on my Primo Jr. It seemed simple enough after watching our Frederick store manager cook up a Papa Murphy’s take-n-bake pizza for our rained out open house.
Here’s what I did:
1. I made pizza dough with a recipe from Fleischmann’s Pizza Dough Yeast. It’s printed on the back of the yeast packet and available from Wegman’s.
2. Instead of heating up the ceramic heat deflector, I kneaded the dough on it cold and then added toppings. (One tip here is to coat the ceramic plate with a thin layer of flour to keep the pizza from sticking.)
3. We loaded on the toppings, figuring that the grill would handle it better than the conventional oven, and it paid off. Twelve minutes at 400 degrees and it was perfectly cooked.

Our Primo line of ceramic grills are easy to use and maintain, but one question that often comes up is how to change the gasket between the base and the lid. Wonder no more! Here’s a video explaining the DIY process.
